Fisheries Liaison Officer (FLO)
- In the UK and Republic of Ireland, as well as in many other offshore provinces, it is a requirement of exploration and production licences to nominate a FLO to be responsible for ensuring good relations with fishermen affected by the company´s activities.
- As this is a very specialist area many companies engage the services of an experienced FLO to act for them. This is a service we are happy to provide and as we also act for a number of North Sea operators there are economies of scale to be made in, for example, meeting with national fishing organisations.
- The main roles of the FLO are to advise operators on the likely impact of their operations on particular fishing activity, proposing ways of minimising such impacts and in some cases (particularly in the southern North Sea) agreeing a compensation scheme if fixed gear (lobster pots etc) needs to be moved to allow operations to take place.
- The FLO would also deal with claims for loss or damage allegedly caused by oil industry activity and if thought valid propose a settlement.
